A Note on Reality
"Are you for real?" This is a question I'm asked frequently in my life. I walk around my house without shoes. I go without meat and eggs. I call for radical change in the nation. It all sparks incredulity. "Are you for real?" And I must respond that indeed I am. That indeed meat is murder. That indeed the country needs change. And again I'm asked. And again I answer. Such is the life of man on the edge of things, a man on the fringe.
"Are you for real?" Now the question resonates on my blog. See the comments posted here if you must. An argument rages over whether I am really the Dennis K. Well, what can I offer you, friends, other than my word? Nothing much. We can quibble over facts and you'll win some and I'll win some and we'll be nowhere in the end. What I want from this site is not a discussion of my reality. "Are you for real?" In the end what does that matter, I wonder? What matters beyond that I am here, I am real, and I offer you these words....

Well, you've certainly got the pitter patter down. If you aren't Dennis K, you do a dang fine imitation. Found you from the Salon snippet. Fascinating experiment :)
"on the fringe"? if valuing life, equality and peace are "fringe" in the United States, there's much work to be done.
DeeJayK: After reading your blog entries, I thought I would share a recent one of my own. Seems fitting.
Dragon of Despair Today I must write about the dragon of despair. I fight this dragon from time to time and lately I feel that the dragon may be winning...
To walk the balance between caring for the world and despairing over her condition is difficult indeed. Today, I came across this article:
Dying for ConsumptionI agree with the author, and I observe the condition as he does. Today, in reading his article, though, I am especially struck by the anger bordering on despair beneath his writing... a feeling of which I am all too familiar.
What in us wishes that everyone else would just "wise up?" And what is it in me that needs to awaken so that I can carry on in peace, without judgement or despair?
Many of us are working too hard against monumental forces, and somehow falling into shadow ourselves. We long to dance with joy and cannot muster the energy to do it.
Who is to say which is worse: blinding consuming or driving others with cheerless, angry judgement? My hope: the artists and comedians will haul us out of this morass. I, for one, need a good belly laugh.
Nathaniel,
You're right, I only wish such values were the mainstream. But then again, at one time, democracy was a fringe idea. So I suppose anything's possible. I strongly believe that though there are stupid people, there are no true Conservatives, only misinformed, yet-to-convert Liberal.

Hello there. Found a link to your blog via Salon and just wanted to stop by to say that you had my enthusiastic youth-flavored vote in the New York primaries. I wish this crazy country had the balls to step up and seriously consider your point of view as a viable alternative. Maybe in 2008?

I checked with the real deal - the Kucinich campaign website - and they told me this blog is a FRAUD.
It has NO connection whatsever to Dennis Kucinich, other than being an imposter.
You are wasting your time here, folks.
